Sketchy ideas #69 - remove the excess, watercolour sketchnotes,

Welcome back to Sketchy ideas. And I know what you're thinking "Is this newsletter moving from Revue?" Well just as Twitter isn't dead yet, neither is this newsletter.

Find the statue in the block of stone

I was reminded of this idea in last week's sketchnote army podcast with Kate Rutter. She shared that her website's name was inspired by this concept.

Personally, I've found this a powerful mindset for creativity.

Instead of trying to find the right idea, I make a bit of a mess of ideas and then find the best parts from the mess. It's the ultimate "beat the blank page" solution.

A watercolour sketchnote

Back at the Sketchnote Camp in Lisbon I tried Urban Sketching for the first time.

The basic idea: go out and sketch a scene, trying to capture how it feels as well as how it looks (typical with pen, paper and some watercolours or brush pens).

It's a lot of fun and a real challenge plus it can feed your visual note taking creativity. Like travel journals or, in this case, a sketchnote with watercolour (like?) colours.

I particularly love the portrait which has a real Quentin Blake feel to it.

See you next week

I might be a bit delayed with next week's edition as I'll be flying to India for a work trip, but I'll share it as soon as I can after.
