Rest - Issue #8 of Learn Create Share from Chris J Wilson
Last week I got sick. Even now I don’t know exactly what it was.
I debated sending my newsletter a few days later, but decided to just rest. Perhaps my body was sending a signal that I should rest.
When I was a teacher, I’d be on “holiday” at this time of year. I say “holiday” as I’d be doing other work to keep paying the bills, but I’d certainly have more than my current, government mandated 20 days of holiday leave.
At the same time, I haven’t felt like I really needed a holiday. When I was a teacher, I felt my creativity and energy drain through out a semester, I’ve found that harder to notice in an office, but I suspect it applies as well.
I’ve felt like I’m missing some sort of “spark” recently. Like my writing is more going through the motions, and my ideas are…okay. Not bad, but nothing crazy. Even the articles and ideas I come across feel more minor additions than grand revolutions.
I suspect this is part of the creative process, sometimes you just have to keep creating and practice the skills. It may take time but eventually you can break through that plateau.
Then again, maybe I need some new exciting input from a fresh source.
The trouble is where.
So I’d like your help. Send me a link to something (anything) that has inspired you recently and let me know why.
Hawai'i Aloha | Song Across Hawai'i | Playing For Change Collaboration
“Hawai’i Aloha” features dozens of Hawai‘i’s top artists across many genres, and over 1,000 youth from 10 Hawaiian charter schools in one epic song. Recorded…
There’s a new project I’ve had an idea for. This is kind of related.
Podcast 189 | Minimalist Business | The Minimalists
Paul Jarvis made a great appearance on the minimalist podcast. Basically, sometimes growth isn’t always the best thing. (Btw there’s a lot of “check out our longer podcast” advertising so be warned).

I really want to try a chromebook. There’s something about them which really appeals to me. It’s probably because 90% of my day job is Chrome based applications (and the other 10% is creating silly graphics of my colleagues).
I kind of want to try a chromebook…but also really don’t…but…
A negative approach - Austin Kleon
“I keep thinking that I shall have no more to say… and then finding some wonderfully idiotic doctrine which I can contradict.”
Austin continues to inspire me. I ought to borrow more from him.
Stop Running in Circles and Ship Work that Matters
I found the Basecamp project management approach to be fascinating.
A break...
I’m on holiday from work this coming week and so I’m not going to send a newsletter next week.
I probably could, but it’s always good to publish a little less than you could produce. Maybe I’ll change my publishing schedule to take every seventh week off.
So have a great time, send me anything you like.
