It hasn’t been an easy time at work recently. A culture of blame and fear had been sweeping through the company.
Where we used to ask for each other’s help, advice, and critique we were now guarding our work, defending ideas, and criticizing each other (not even the work).
People’s motives and skills were being questioned. But just as suddenly as this trend started, it (appears to have) stopped.
The situation is much improved and not only are our morals higher, but we’re producing better work too.
I believe this is a good reminder that treating your co-workers with respect, trusting their decisions and asking for their ideas makes all of us work better (and make work better fo us all). It can be tricky when you think you know best or really want your idea not theirs, but putting that ego aside helps everyone.
I’m certainly going to do my best to avoid returning to a culture of blame.
